Skateboard truck size chart
Trucks should be about as wide as your deck. Measure the deck across the middle, then pick the truck size whose axle is closest to that width. Each brand numbers its sizes differently, so use the chart below.
Deck width to truck size
| Deck width | Independent | Thunder | Venture |
|---|---|---|---|
| 7.4" to 7.8" | 129 | 145 | 5.0 |
| 7.8" to 8.2" | 139 | 147 | 5.2 |
| 8.2" to 8.375" | 144 | 148 | 5.6 |
| 8.375" to 8.6" | 149 | 149 | 5.8 |
Sizes in our shop right now: Independent 139 and 144, Thunder 147 and Venture 5.2. All trucks are sold as a set of two. Shop all trucks.
Axle width vs hanger width
The axle is the full width from one wheel nut to the other. That is the number to match to your deck. The hanger is the metal part between the wheels and is shorter. Independent 139 trucks have an axle of about 8.0", which is why they suit decks from roughly 7.8" to 8.2".
Truck height and wheel size
- Low or mid: sits closer to the ground and feels stable. Best with smaller wheels, about 50–53mm.
- Standard or Hi: more room for bigger wheels, about 52–56mm, and a little more turn.
- Pick wheels that fit your truck height so they do not rub the deck when you turn.
Not sure what width your deck is?
Most decks print the width on the bottom or in the name, for example "8.25". See the deck size guide if you are choosing a new deck at the same time, or send us a message with a photo of your board.
